After the heat of May comes the first drops of rain and with it that wonderfully invigorating aroma of wet earth. It’s time to let your hair down, kickback and enjoy the beginning of monsoon – far from rush hours, meetings, fast foods and crowds.

The beginning of the monsoon is the best time to wind down and enjoy the fresh air, short bursts of sunlight and relaxed long meals, all without having to necessarily leave your villa. Spend as much time as you like swimming in your private pool in the rain, sunbathing on the patio of your private villa and long home cooked lunches served the way you like it. Time, after all is no longer a factor, it’s a luxury when you are on holiday in Goa.

Nature at this time of the year is vibrant and green and is best enjoyed by taking leisurely walks through your private tropical garden or farm, with no one around except your family or friends. The neighbourhoods and villages of Goa are ideal for long walks. Pick an umbrella from your villa and explore your neighbourhood by foot. Ask your villa staff for things to do or places to visit nearby to experience a different side to Goa.

For the more adventurous, you’d be glad to know that Goa is a biker’s destination. After a hearty, relaxed breakfast cooked in-house, grab a map of Goa, a raincoat and head out into the rains.

During these first weeks of rain you can still savour long relaxed bike rides through Goa’s many local villages. Most of the roads are in good condition. Further inland through the villages the roads are narrow; perfect for bike riding. Cruise along rivers like Chapora or catch a ferry to the islands of Chorao and Divar. Ride along winding roads passing roadside chapels and temples and quaint villages.

A bike ride from Anjuna in the North to Colva, Majorda or Benaulim in the South will take you about two hours along very good roads and with numerous places to stop along the way and stretch your legs. Your villa manager will help organise any transport you may require… all you have to do is ask.
