It’s December. Temperatures have dropped and the sun is shining. It’s a delightful 24 degrees centigrade in the day, with 18 degrees centigrade at night – time to bring out the jackets and mufflers.

The roads are once again busy. The shops are decked out, beach shacks spruced up and markets buzzing with activity. Restaurants have introduced new dishes on their menus along with old favorites. Night clubs are rocking until the early morning and new places continue to open up almost every day.

This tiny state on the west coast of India is in holiday mood; the days blending into one long blur of sunshine and fun.

December is also the time when the markets are full of a variety of fresh produce. Mapusa Friday market is ideal for spices, tropical fruits, seasonal vegetables and fresh fish. Local women who sell home grown produce and vinegars sit and gossip under umbrellas.  Commercial fruit and vegetable sellers beckon from behind tables stacked with fresh produce. Shops huddle in the background selling manufactured goods and groceries.

If you are chasing for antiques, jewelry and gifts to take back home, head to the Wednesday flea market at Anjuna, a tourist’s delight. The night markets on Saturday are a relaxing way to peruse through handcrafted artifacts and jewelry from all over the world.  Or, just hang out near the stage,  whiskey in hand and shaking a leg to live jazz and rock acts. The food court is a must-visit.

Each village in Goa has its special markets. Ask our concierge service or check with the manager of your villa for more information.
